What do you do with a freezer full of pork? Hit pinterest! lol We just packed our freezer with the hog we had processed and I’m in heaven. A nice change from all the beef recipes I have to come up with. And, surprisingly the hubs thinks pork is a close second to red meat. Especially bacon. 😉 But other than making pork chops, frying bacon, and baking a whole ham I never really ventured into other things. Until last night.
This is soooo simple and makes your kitchen smell divine. The kids even said, “Whoa mom! That smells awesome!” as they each came through the door last night. 😉 It tasted even better.
What you’ll need:
- Ham steaks
- 1 cup of pineapple juice (I confess I used the juice from a can of pineapple rings–throw a couple of those on top of the ham while it’s cooking, even better!)
- 1/2 cup of brown sugar
- 1 oz. of water
That’s it! Put your ham steaks in a big skillet. Mix your juice, brown sugar and water and pour over your ham. Turn your burner on high until your juice starts to boil. Then turn the burner down to medium, cover the skillet (with a lid….yes, it’s necessary to make that statement), and cook for about 30 minutes. Juicy, sweet ham steaks. Simple, but tastes like you worked hard at dinner. We had ham steaks, scalloped potatoes (from a box, I know….shame, shame), and bread and butter. I was sew busy yesterday working on projects for Christmas that I ran late getting dinner ready. So this was super fast and super easy. The only thing I wish I’d done differently………….make more. I swear having growing teenage boys in the house is like cooking for a small army.
